Why You Become a JSCE Member

    JSCE Membership offers various advantages and services: the JSCE members can get a number of opportunities to take part in the JSCE activities, to develop their professional skills and knowledge, and network in and outside Japan. 

    If you become a JSCE member, you are able to receive various benefits, advantages, and services such as:

  1. Publish your research projects in the JSCE journals and magazines and present them at the JSCE Anual Meeting and other technical meetings.
  2. Attend various meetings, e.g. symposiums, seminars, and post-disaster research briefings organized by JSCE's technical committees.
  3. Receive a free copy of the JSCE magazine, "Civil Engineering" in Japanese. In addition, you will receive a discount when subscribing to any of the JSCE journals.
  4. Access to the JSCE Library's collection of books, periodicals, rare documents and digital free of charge by presenting your membership card. 
  5. Receive membership rates for purchasing JSCE publications if you place an order directly to the JSCE.
  6. Receive membership rates to attend the technical seminars, symposiums, workshops and other meetings offered in the CPD (Continuing Professional Development) Programs.
  7. Receive the benefits and services extended to JSCE by the JSCE's Agreement of Cooperation (AOC) societies overseas.

1. Who may Become JSCE Member

◆ Full Regular Membership

1.   Have extensive knowledge and experience in civil engineering, and/or 

2.   Have extensive professional experience in field after completing courses in civil engineering or related disciplines in higher education

◆ Student Membership

    Those who currently are studying in a civil engineering program in university, technical college, high school, or professional training college.

2. Registration and Annual Membership Fees

 JSCE's fiscal year starts on April 1 each year and ends on March 31 the following year.

  1. Application may be processed after the payment of Registration and Annual Membership fees is confirmed. In general, it takes one month to process the membership application. Full payment must be made prior to, or at the time of application submission.
  2. If you apply for the JSCE Membership close to the end of fiscal year (January 1- March 31), the annual membership fee for the following fiscal year must be paid. Processing the application may be suspended until the Membership Section confirms your payment of annual membership fee.
  3. The annual JSCE Membership fee covers a subscription to the monthly JSCE magazine “Civil Engineering” (in Japanese). Shipping and handling fees are charged to the members residing outside Japan.
    If you apply for Full Regular Membership or Student Membership sometime in the fiscal year, you need to indicate in the application from which month you would like to start a subscription to the JSCE Magazine “Civil Engineering” and/or the JSCE journals. The membership fee is computed on the basis of 1/12 annual membership fee multiplied by the months of the indicated month to March and be paid together with registration fee and if necessary, shipping and handling fees.   Note:  For the non-Japanese residing outside Japan.  Please check the membership fees listed in the above table. 
  4. From the second year of your membership, you will receive an invoice for your annual membership fee and subscription to the JSCE Magazine "Civil Engineering" at the beginning of each fiscal year.
  5. Please make a payment by the credit card Visa or MasterCard.  After the Membership Section checks the application to which you submitted, they will email you the confirmation and also request for your credit card details- Visa or MasterCard, card holder's name, expiration date and your signature. 

3. Membership Benefits

    The JSCE members:

  1. Receive the monthly JSCE magazine "Civil Engineering" (in Japanese), in which the JSCE President's messages, technical committees' reports, JSCE’s events, and others are introduced.
  2. Receive discounted subscription to the JSCE journals (in Japanese) or other English journals when purchasing an annual subscription to one of those journals.
  3. Access to the JSCE Civil Engineering Library free of charge. Please present your JSCE membership card at the Library Circulation Desk when you come in that library.   *Please note that books and materials in the library are reference only.
  4. May purchase JSCE publications at discounted rates. Please place an order directly to the Publication Section by email or fax.
  5. May participate in JSCE- organized/ co-organized meetings, conferences, symposiums, lectures, workshops, etc. by paying discounted admission or registration fees, and may purchase texts at discounted prices.

4. JSCE Magazine and Journals

      The JSCE members who subscribe* to the journals can get access to the electronic versions of journals on J- Stage. If you like to subscribe to the journals on the J-Stage, please apply for it the Membership Section by email, fax, or email with your name, membership number.  Your subscription will continue until you send a written notice to the Membership Section via email, letter or fax. 
*Annual subscription to the journals is available to only Full Regular Members.

5. Withdrawal and Reinstatement

  1. If you like to withdraw your JSCE membership, please send the Membership Section a letter of withdrawal by email, letter or faxl at the address below.
  2. If you are a former JSCE member and like to return to the membership, please apply the membership by filling in the application form (PDF)/ (MS WORD) and send it to the Membership Section together with the annual membership fees.

FAQ

Q.   "I am a professional engineer back home. I’m currently studying at college in Japan. I would like to maintain my JSCE Membership even after going back home. What should I do?"

A.  Please provide the Membership Section with your mailing address at home and your nationality. The Membership Section will update your record and forward the JSCE journals, information and invoices to the home address. Your membership fees may change. Please check the membership fee for non-Japanese nationals residing outside Japan at the table in "2. Registration and Annual Membership Fees".

 ● Q.  "What credit cards are accepted to pay the JSCE Membership fees? 

 ⇒ A.  Only Visa and MasterCard are accepted.

    Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO*) has “Follow-up Services” of providing information such as “eNewsletter” and “Jasso Mail Magazines”. Please contact JASSO for the details of the services.
